Best deal ADSL2+
- What is the best value ADSL2+ plan there is there in Australia?
I have shortlisted best value ISP plan based on the length of contracts:
I try not counting the off peak period as for some ISP off peak period can be from 3am to 7am (Different ISP has different time) which is useless for most people. Unless if you do lots of download in off peak time.
This are based on minimum spent – setup fee, monthly fee and minimum phone line charged to give a holistic view of best plan. Assumption: will bundle for best price and those without bundle are usingTelstra $20 phone line.
So Choose how much broadband you need first – then decide if you want 6 mths/12mths or 24mths contract.

Even though it seems there are a lot of choices – I have shorlisted to a few- hence if you look into it closely, you should be able to choose easily. I hope this will make your decision so much easier! Please comment if you find it useful. Cheers

Does anyone know how I can tell if my slow broadband connection is down to my pc or my broadband provider (Tiscali)? I ran a speed test here http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/speedtest/ and it tells me I have a download speed of 2.06Mbs and an upload speed of 243 Kbps. My laptop a dell Inspiron 8600, is about 3-4 years old some and I have Windows and is running Windows 2000.
Any or advice help would be greatly appreciated!

2.06Mbps is not too bad. although in term of speed it depends on how do you connect your internet. That means: are you connecting through cable to your ADSL modem or by wireless? connection by cable should be faster. Also the length of your cable makes a slight different too (anything below 1.5m cable should be fine) 2nd it is depend on how far your phone line from the swith exchange. The closer your house to the exchange, the faster it should be. 3rd, this is largely dependant upon how good the quality of your phone lines wires etc. You can start querying your ISP (Tiscali) by some time they might say, if they cant find anything wrong at their end, they will charge you for the cost of getting someone to check the exchange. But in experience, 2Mbps is fast enough for browsing and youtubing. Though your upload speed is slow. (This tends to be different to different ISP and/or plan). Hope this helps
